On the island, salt air rusts springs, hinges, rollers and tracks much faster than it does inland, and the humidity is hard on weatherstripping. We use galvanized and stainless parts where we can, and we suggest a tune-up every six months instead of once a year.
The garage door is the largest opening in most homes, so it matters in a hurricane. Coastal homes generally need a wind-rated door that meets Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) requirements, and we install those.
