Stop Using the Door
Don't push it, pull it or hit the remote again. Every cycle can bend the sections further or drop the door.
Unplug the Opener
Pull the opener's plug from the ceiling outlet so nobody presses a remote or wall button by mistake. Leave the red release cord alone if the door is open.
Secure the Area
Keep kids, pets and cars away from the opening. If the door is stuck partway up, nobody walks or drives under it.

What Causes a Garage Door to Come Off Track?
Getting the door back in the track is half the job. If the cause isn't fixed, it comes out again.
Broken or Worn Rollers
Old steel rollers rust and seize, and cheap nylon wheels chip or split. A roller that stops turning can climb right out of the track.
Impact Damage
A bumper that catches the bottom section, or a car pulled in too far, can shove the door sideways and pop rollers loose.
Broken Lift Cable
With one cable gone, only one side of the door is held up. It drops on the loose side, cocks at an angle and jams.
Bent or Misaligned Tracks
A dent from a bike or lawn mower, or a track that has slowly pulled away from the wall, gives the rollers room to slip out.
Obstruction in Track
A broom handle, a toy or a buildup of grime in the channel can stop a roller while the opener keeps pushing.
Worn Track Brackets
When the lag screws holding the brackets work loose, the track shifts a little more each time the door runs.

Is it safe to use my garage door if it's off track?
No. Running the opener on a door that's out of its track can bend the sections, strip the opener, or let the door fall. Leave it where it is, unplug the opener, and keep people and cars clear until a tech gets there.
Can I fix an off-track garage door myself?
We don't recommend it. A two-car door commonly weighs 200 to 400 lbs, and if a cable or spring is involved the door can drop the moment you start prying a roller back in. Call it in.
How much does off-track repair cost?
It depends on what pushed the door out. Some doors just need new rollers and a reset; others need a cable, a spring or new track. If a section was cracked in the impact, panel replacement usually runs $650 to $1,100. You get a free written quote before we start.
How long does off-track repair take?
A door that only needs to be reset with new rollers is a shorter job than one with a bent track and a snapped cable. Our trucks carry rollers, cables, brackets and track, so most off-track doors are back in service in one visit.
What causes a garage door to come off track?

- Spray roller bearings and hinges twice a year, but keep grease out of the track channel
- Look at the rollers every month or so for cracked wheels or wobble
- Snug up any track bracket that has started to pull away from the wall
- Wipe out the tracks with a rag when dirt or cobwebs build up
- Pay attention to new scraping or popping. It usually means a roller is binding
Habits to Avoid
- Backing out before the door is all the way up. A bumper clipping the bottom section is a common way doors get knocked out
- Hanging bikes, ladders or hooks from the track
- Putting off a call about a loose cable or a noisy roller
- Lifting or pushing a door that is binding on one side
- Letting kids ride the door or swing on the bottom rail
- Adjusting springs or cables yourself. They hold enough tension to injure you
